Wave Motion

Wave refers to any disturbance from an equilibrium position which travels or propagates itself over time from one place to another. Waves have two types these are longitudinal waves and transverse waves. Longitudinal waves occurs when the particles vibrates parallel to the direction of the motion of the waves while Transverse waves travels at right angles to the motion of the particles. Examples of transverse waves are Heat and Light waves. Longitudinal example is Sound.

Parts of waves are crest, trough, wavelength and amplitude. Wavelength refers to the distance between two parallel parts in two following waves. Amplitude is the height of the wave measured from equilibrium position. Crest is the height of the wave or the point where the wave exhibits the maximum amount of positive or upwards displacement and lastly trough is the lower height of the wave or the points where the wave exhibits its maximum negative or downward displacement.
