What is Doppler Radar

Due to the tragedy of Typhoon Ondoy, the PAG-ASA (Weather forcasting of the Philippnes) declared that they purchased already a Doppler radar and announced that it will be delivered on October 2009. The PAG-ASA also announced that the Philippines already used some of the Doppler RADAR but with very minimal unit.

Though Philippine have very minimal radar, the PAG-ASA should know if their might be a heavy rain that will be coming because they have the radar. In this manner I asked my self if they are knowledgeable enough in using the system because it is new.

Doppler radar is radar produces a set incident wave on the surrounding and then counted the speed of reflected waves. When the speeds of reflected waves too fast. It as assumed that there were a huge amount of rains on the vicinity of the radar. And the direction of the form clouds would be opposite to the direction of the incident waves. In this case there would be a big flood and heavy rain.

On the hand, if the speed of reflected waves were slow the clouds or rain formation might be going at the same direction of the direction incident waves produced by the radar. This principle was from the idea of Christian Doppler. He discovered the Doppler Effect in 1842. His discovery of Doppler radars were now used in air defense, air traffic control, sounding satellites, police speed guns, and radiology.
