THE TICKER TAPE TIMER

The ticker tape timer

At a glance this apparatus have no any arrived in freshmen students especially if students have no experience in a physics laboratory. This very simple rectangular black apparatus with switch was used to detemine the acceleration of an object moving down an incline plane or dynamic track.

It is sometimes called recording timer. It leads in the realization of the distance covered by an object under accelerated motion increases for same time interval.

This device is operated on a low voltage AC supply of usually 60 HZ. However the experiment done in the Laboratory has only 10 HZ and 40 Hz. This device also serves as vibrator which leaves dots on a paper tape using a carbon paper.

Attitude of the Adlaw students towards clip system

What were the attitudes of the students towards the clip system?

Kinder Adlaw students in five days Clip system proper/ implementation (Raised hand and was called). It reveals that Gabriel and Selena have an improved attitude especially with the value of courtesy. It also reveals that the students have a big improvement in raising their hands. This means that the students already understood the importance of raising hand when reciting and have learned the value of courtesy in social setting like classroom. This implies that the students are well behaved with Clip system proper/ implementation.

It is notable that Zachary was losing interest in the Clip system proper/ implementation after March 12. His frequency value when raising hand when called were 2, 3, 7, 5, and 3 respectively. This is because he is the only member of the class who remembered the rules without being reviewed by the researchers. This means that Zachary knows or was very familiar with the discussion especially with clips.

Generally, it reveals that all of the students recited their answer when called by the teacher, well behaved, and lastly, respect their classmates when reciting on class.

Adlaw Kinders

Kinder Adlaw students’ pre-test/observation. It reveals that the behaviors of Kinder Adlaw students during whole group sessions before introducing the clip system were often talked out of tune, very minimal who raised hand and was called, very minimal who raised hand and was not called, and lastly students have sometimes raised hands and talked out of turn as evidenced by the total frequency values of 4 (1. Raised hand and was called), 7(2. Raised hand and was not called), 12 (3. Raised hand and talked out of turn), and 48 (4. Talk out of turn) respectively. This means that the behaviors of Kinder Adlaw students during whole group sessions before introducing the clip system were very noisy, talked out of turn, attentive, active, but lack of discipline and respect and courtesy for the one who is talking.

Sonny Ericson's Evaluation of the Alliance and its Performance

Evaluation of the Alliance and Its Performance

IN A NUTSHELL, both Sony and Ericsson joined forces with the end in mind of generating more profits than if they had struck it out by themselves in the telecommunications business. The financial statements show a failure of the Sony Ericsson brand of company to cope with the aftershocks of the current depression enveloping the entire earth. However, this leader in the mobile phone industry is expected to bounce back to its old self after the depression evaporates into thin air probably by 2011. Conclusively, the company is on the right track in producing new mobile phone models each year to fill the needs of its current and prospective clients. The Sony Ericsson co opting alliance was mainly due to the pooling of the resources of both companies to derive economics of scale or limit its risk (Lorange & Chakravarthy 2007, 94).

Sonny Ericson: Alliance management and performance

Alliance Management

The Sony Ericsson company’s management style needs lots of improvement. The sales for the fourth quarter above show that the company has been affected by the worldwide depression. The loss generated for the first quarter of 2009 means that the people are no longer craving for expensive phones like the Sony Ericsson. The people have to feed their hungry stomach first before they think of dishing out lots of excess money to buy expensive mobile phones. A research should be done to determine what went wrong (Burwell,1999,19).

Alliance Performance

From the viewpoint of an outsider, the company is not doing well. It generated a lost for the first quarter 2009. The company generated a loss because it could not grab a material part of the customer pie of Nokia and other market segment. The company officers should have a brainstorming to determine their next course of action. This meeting must push through to revitalize its current marketing strategy because it seems to lose its effectiveness in increasing territorial segments. The strategy of the company should be to spy on the highly salable products of its top competitors like Nokia.

It must produce outputs that would outshine or outdo its competitors in the mobile phone industry and other jobs in the future. The future of the company is not as bleak. The world economy is expected to recover by the end of 2010. This clearly shows that the alliance may break apart if the total cost of production and expenses to operate are higher than the revenues generated from selling its mobile and other electronics –based products(Slavin,1989,595).

Why Sony and Ericson decided to ally?

Sony and Ericsson were struggling hard before their alliance in 2001. Both companies did not perform well financially on their own. The combined forces resulting to the installation of the Ericsson logo on Sony cell phones. This immediately increased the cell phones sales figures (Hisrich, 2000, 15). One of the initial marketing strategies of Sony Ericsson was to sell its camera phones in 2003. This T610 camera phone immediately sold like hotcakes when sold in the market. The T610 black and silver phones were immediate success stories. The company increases its mobile phone models to more than thirty -five in order to increase its sales figures (Gall, 2006, 293). The James Bond movie, Casino Royale, featured the Sony Ericsson mobile cyber shot phone unit. The success of these mobile phones was due to the many features it offered. The mobile phones included such features as MP3 players, and cameras. The company also increased its customer base by including Google Blogger facility on its Cyber shot phone which enables the mobile phone users to create their own blog and to post photographs on it in just two or three keystrokes (Henry, 2008, 2238).

Sonny Ericson: The Alliance

The Alliance:

Sony and Ericsson is based on process integration and information exchange (Genus, 1998,7). The alliance is riding high on the demand of people for mobile phones to facilitate information exchange with their clients, friends, employees, relatives and the like. In terms of research, “The short-term motivation of banks to cut branches and develop telephone-based services has been to maximize profits in a period of high demands on bank reserves; third world debt and poor investment strategies; to maintain competitiveness by keeping ahead in a deregulated market of financial products and services; and for some, to create new markets by fostering a commercial identity independent of a branch presence” (Miller & Bastos, 1999,53).

Sonny Ericson Company profile

Company Profiles

The alliance between Sony of Japan and Ericsson of Sweden is geographical. functional and product based. Sony had a low sales performance before the merger with Ericsson in 2001. The merger immediately catapulted Japan’s Sony phone sales because the customers of Ericsson saw a strong alliance between the expertise of Sony and the Expertise of Ericsson. This is what synergy is all about (Anderson et al.,1984, 134) Synergy is defined as the one plus one is equal to more than two (Churchill & Peter,1995,192). The exchange of customer information, production knowledge and marketing strategies plus the established customer base of one alliance partner is being bolstered by the attachment of the name of its alliance partner when entering into the other partners’ established market segment (Ingram, 2004,63)

The alliance between Sony of Japan and Ericsson of Sweden is also functional. The features of Sony’s expertise in technology are being permeated into the products of Ericsson. In the same light, the features of the Ericsson quality products are being fused into the Sony products. The marriage of the functions of both alliance partners created a strong demand for their new products. The Sony Ericsson mobile phones are equipped with cameras, MP3s and Java games, clock, and other features resulting to the increase in the demand for their products (Solomon,2003,175).

The alliance between Sony of Japan and Ericsson of Sweden is also product based. Sony Ericsson is selling a product that is a necessary. It is one of the basic needs of man, with due respect to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. A manager needs to mobile phone to talk to the branch manager on the other line while travelling in an airplane. The production manager needs the mobile phone to contact the market manager in another city to determine the number of products to be manufactured while the production manager is in a board of directors’ meeting. The teenagers need the mobile phone to take pictures of his group swimming, dancing or drinking the night away. The mothers gives her ten year child a mobile phone so he could contact her inside the classroom to inform her that classes have been dismissed early and he wants to be fetched (Hughes et al., 1998,95).

One of the officers of Sony Ericsson believes that the communications product sales had increased because many people prefer to hide their photographs, songs, and other items in their mobile phone units. The cell phones also include a camera to take and keep pictures of friends and families. The younger generation would use the Sony Ericsson to record and share internet music downloads (Henry, 2008, 2238). The middle of the 1990s showed that the European mobile industry started to mushroom and sales growth was phenomenal. A newly established large consumer electronics company had poised a challenge to the current market players (Hoover, Elorante, 2991, 65).

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications is one of the world’s largest leading mobile phone brands. The alliance hired six thousands workers around the world five years after the company was born out of the wedlock of Sony of Japan and Ericsson of Sweden. The company has grown from its early beginning be one of the most successful consumer electronics brands in their market segment. Its success is due to its innovative way of introducing products that are considered first in the telecommunications market (Flickenger, 2003, 21). Its marketing strategy is founded on its customer insights and a passion for strategic marketing. The alliance of Sony and Ericsson is based on trust. Both sides have invested their time, energy and money to the merger with the hope that synergy will bring more cash inflows into the alliance than if both Sony and Ericsson struck it out in the business world on his own (Barnes,2003,14).

Wave Motion

Wave refers to any disturbance from an equilibrium position which travels or propagates itself over time from one place to another. Waves have two types these are longitudinal waves and transverse waves. Longitudinal waves occurs when the particles vibrates parallel to the direction of the motion of the waves while Transverse waves travels at right angles to the motion of the particles. Examples of transverse waves are Heat and Light waves. Longitudinal example is Sound.

Parts of waves are crest, trough, wavelength and amplitude. Wavelength refers to the distance between two parallel parts in two following waves. Amplitude is the height of the wave measured from equilibrium position. Crest is the height of the wave or the point where the wave exhibits the maximum amount of positive or upwards displacement and lastly trough is the lower height of the wave or the points where the wave exhibits its maximum negative or downward displacement.

Atwood machine

Newton’s second law of motion: Atwood machine

Most of the students were not that familiar with Atwood machine when entering in a Physics laboratory because it is not that attractive but when the professor, introduce the apparatus, students appreciate the importance of it in learning Physics.

Atwood machine was used to demonstrate the principle of Newton’s Second law of motion which is commonly known as Law of acceleration.

The formula used in this experiment was from the kinematics equation which is d = Vi t + ½ at^2. Of course the experiment starts from rest so the formula then was simplified to d = ½ at^2 . From this equation the formula of acceleration was then derived.

a= 2d

t^2 This serves as experimental value of acceleration.

On the other hand the formula for theoretical value of acceleration was derived from Force = weight which means a (m1 + m2) = (m2-m1) g. From here the formula of acceleration was derived

a= (m 2-m1) g

(m 1 + m2)

Newton's Law of Motion

Newton’s First Law: Law of Inertia

Ø Inertia is a property of matter to resist change in its state of rest or uniform motion.

Ø All matter has inertia.

Ø The amount of inertia a body possesses depends on its mass.

Ø Newton’s first law of motion says that a body at rest or in uniform motion will remain in that state provided that the net force acting on it is zero.

Ø The law of inertia, which states that a body at rest remains at rest or a body in uniform motion moves in the same direction and at the same speed unless an external unbalanced force acts on it.

Newton’s Second Law: Law of Acceleration

Ø Newton’s second law states that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to and in the same direction as, the net force and is inversely proportional to the mass.

Ø Force is that which causes a body to move or to accelerate.

Ø One Newton of force is equal to 1X 10 5 dyne.

Newton’s Third Law: Law of Interaction

Ø Newton’s second law states that for every action force there is always an opposite and equal reaction force.

Ø Force does not cancel out each other.

Ø Forces act in pair.

Heto na! Heto na!

This song was the most memorable song done by my best friend Ruel C. Rodil. He inspires me, especially to be a good guy and God fearing. He is a very kind and a model professor. He is now teaching in Arellano University Manila. He is my previous co teacher in Roosevelt College Rodriguez. He always leads me to the top of the horizon specifically in the field of education. I am humbly presents this Lyrics to thank him with his good heart and of course with lots of good deed he offered with me when I was so down in emptiness. Bro!!! You’re the man. Thanks for everything. I really miss your company. (Wait for the Youtube guys it’s in the making)

The use of Linear Regression to estimate demand Functions

Interpretation of the Number of Raspberries sold,
and price against price of strawberries.

Data analysis on: Comparison of the number of Raspberries sold (QHC) to the price of Raspberries (PHC) and the price of Strawberries (PTC) using analysis of variance (ANOVA)

Using 0.05 level of significance, F-statistics, and an Analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, it was established that the df num value is k-1, or 3 -1, or 2 and the df den value is T-k, or 14 - 3, or 11. So, with α = 0.05, the critical value of F in this analysis of variance test was F0.05 (2, 11) = 19.40. Since computed F (FC) is greater than Tabulated F (FT), Ho is rejected. This is because the result of the “Analysis of Variance” (ANOVA) shows that the computed F (53.287) is greater than the tabular values of F-statistics (19.40) at 0.05 degree of freedom (2, 11). This means that there is a significant difference between the numbers of Raspberries sold (QHC) to the price of Raspberries (PHC) and the price of Strawberries.

Data analysis on: Correlation of the number of Raspberries sold (QHC) to the price of Raspberries (PHC) and the price of Strawberries (PHC) using coefficient of determination (R^2)

The resultant R Square 0.9064 is very close to 1 which means that the correlation is near normal curve distribution, so, it is interpreted as very high correlation. Thus, in percentile (%), 90.64 is an indicator of significant relationship between the numbers of Raspberries sold (QHC) to the price of Raspberries (PHC) and the price of Strawberries. Finally, the R square of 0.906442055 is very close to the adjusted R square 0. 8894. This means that the regression model fits the data very well.

P-value

The price of Raspberries and the price of Strawberries are not significant in the full regression equation. This is because the p-value of the two variables is not equal to zero.

95% Confidence interval

The regression slope of Px or the confidence interval is very short with -2.584093567 to 0.331654932 which is more closer to zero while Py has-3.141920767 to 6.861760859 is far from zero so Py has significant implication to the Numbers of Raspberries sold.

t-Stat or test statistics

All of the test statistic values were very close to 1.96 which means that the hypothesis is rejected. The test statistics value of the Y-Intercept is z = -9.886221978 / 65.41785143 = -0.151124223. The value falls near in the left rejection region. The test statistics value of Px = -1.126219318 / 0.662373503 = -1.700278337. The value falls near in the left rejection region. The test statistics value of Py = 1.859920046 / 2.272546361 = 0.818429968. The value falls near in the right rejection region
